GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) _ Authorities say a Canadian man who was arrested for drinking alcohol on a public street in Grand Forks has a violent criminal history and had been deported from the United States.
Grand Forks police say 46-year-old Leonard Duke Vandal was uncooperative and threatened police when he was arrested earlier this month.
Vandal told police his name was Christopher James St. Claire and said he was a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada.
Criminal records checks through the U.S. Border Patrol discovered that Vandal had previous felony convictions for aggravated assault, aggravated robbery and kidnapping, and served prison time in North Dakota and Minnesota.
Vandal appeared in federal court earlier this week on charges of illegal re-entry and impersonating a U.S. citizen. He was not asked to enter a plea.
